Your Questions Answered
Accommodation: Ferry to Caen in shared 2-4 berth (subject to availability) en suite cabins. Hotels in France are 2-3* standard, allocated on twin/triple and single sex basis. Room share requests can be detailed on the participant form contained within the information pack you’ll receive once registered.
Food and meals: All meals will be provided except for breakfast on Day 1 (departure day), and lunch on Day 5 (return home) as this is a free day for sightseeing in Paris. Lunch will be provided en route as an open air buffet or at a restaurant. Special dietary requirements can be requested. A morning and an afternoon snack stop will also be provided.
Transport: A one way ferry ticket from the UK to France is included, and a one way Eurostar return from Paris to London. Bikes will either be transported back to UK via Eurostar or by support vehicle if there are space restrictions on the train.
Event Support: You will be accompanied by a support team including cycle guides, an event medic, bike mechanics and support vehicles. The route will be clearly signed throughout and you will be given a briefing and route map each morning. Your luggage will be transported from one accommodation to the next. >
Travel insurance: You will need to have an appropriate travel insurance policy in place to at least cover: potential medical expenses, repatriation, injury, cancellation and curtailment. This can be arranged via Action Challenge if required, or you can utilise your own policy. You will be rquired to supply details of your policy prior to departure.
Passport: A valid passport is required and participants must be at least 18 years of age.
Medical form: Participants should be confident that they have no injury or medical condition that might prevent them taking part. If in doubt advice should be sought from your doctor. You will be asked to complete a medical form and sign a declaration prior to travelling. >
Bikes: You need to bring your own folding bike. Bikes must be road worthy so please ensure that your bike is fully serviced prior to departure. Mechanics will also be on hand to support during the event. If you don’t have a folding bike but would like to take part please look at our website for details of retailers and bike rentals or please contact us.
Pre-event Training: You will need to get used to being in the saddle of your folding bike for prolonged periods of time. It takes a few sessions to perfect the best cycling position and you may even want to change your saddle. It is best to combine a variety of exercise to increase your overall fitness level. Training on an a conventional bike will probably provide a slightly more comfortable ride on longer training sessions. Your information pack will include tips and further information on how to prepare for the challenge.
What to bring: A full kit list is included as part of the challenge information pack. Cycle helmets are compulsory.
